DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEARNERSHIPS and INTERNSHIPS What is the difference between a Learnership and an Internship? A lot of people confuses the two, some even confuse learnerships with a bursary or scholarship. They are not the same. I just want to try to clear the two. A Learnership is a programme, mostly for people with only matric as their highest qualification. You get to be trained in a certain field while you are also earning money at the same time. After completion of the programme, you should be awarded a certificate which indicate the level that you have achieved. With that certificate, you can go and look for a job in that field or further your studies in the same field. An internship, is a workplace programme where a person with a degree or diploma is placed to get practical experience for the field of study they are in. Sometimes people need to get this experience in order to complete their qualifications. The same here, you get paid while you are doing your intern work. So the big difference is, for a learnership you have matric as your highest qualification while for an internship you must have a diploma or degree or you are about to complete it.
