#DINAGYANGUPDATE Tribu Salognon now performing at Freedom Grandstand Did you konow that the first inaugural participation of the TRIBU SALOGNON into the Dinagyang Festival as a contesting tribe was in the year 2004, when the school’s faculty, staff and students, headed the call of the lloilo Dinagyang Foundation’s invitation to take part in the festivities. Initially, the term SALOGNON came from the the word “Salog” which is the old name of Jaro the place where the school is situated. “Salognon” then, refers to anyone or anything coming from “Salog”. It must be brought to light that the initial enthusiasm to eagerly participate in the Dinagyang is largely attributable to the school principal of that time Mrs. Jesusita P. Agudo, who was ably assisted by Aurora I. Evangelista and Raquel C. Arancillo III as co-choreographer. Its first artistic director was Anthony E. Portugalete. Through the years of its existence and continued participation inthe Iloilo Dinagyang Festival, the tribe had undergone several purging as well as cleansing process. In 2005, the tribe’s name was changed to “ANG TAGA-JARO”, a generic reference to the illustrious people and historic place of Jaro since it was thought that many people cannot relate as to what the historical name “Salognon” means. This name was still used until the year 2009 when Mrs. Helen H. Deguma, the school principal then, revertedback the used of the original name “TRIBU SALOGNON”.When the incumbent principal, Belinda V. Dinopol assumed theposition as the new school administrator of Jaro National High School in November 2011, she brought along with her the strong commitment to constantly involve the school in various activities of the city government like participation to the famous Iloilo Dinagyang Festival. With this in mind, the continued used of the name “TRIBU SALOGNON” was utilized by the present administration in order to project a continuity of the tribe’s famous legacy. The tribe’s long participation in numerous festivals had earned itself various honors and awards. In 2005, the tribe garnered the award of “Most Colorful Costume” and placed 3rd Runner-Up in the Open Category Contest as well. In the year 2006, it was adjudged “Champion in the Tribe Booth Competition”, and garnered the “Most Educational/Informational Booth” award. The tribe was also awarded the 2nd Runner-Up of the “Best Tribe Warrior” category. In 2007, the “Tribu Salognon” was the 2nd Runner-Up in the Grand Ati/Dinagyang Parade.
