Despite forming at the height of Punk, front man Mark Knopflers distinctive guitar picking style gave the band an alternative and instantly recognisable sound. The Band reached its peak in the mid 80s playing larger venues including a memorable slot at Live Aid. So far record sales have reached over 100 million worldwide and Knopfler is still regarded as one of the finest guitarists and songwriters this country has produced. Dire Streets perfectly capture the distinctive, authentic sound of one of the biggest guitar bands of all time. Fronted by finger picking guitar ace John Brunsdon and his band of accomplished musicians, they play with an attention to detail and musicianship that marks them as the stand-out Dire Straits tribute in the UK. Check out the reviews!! direstreets.co.uk/reviews/ Dire Streets cover tracks from early classics like Sultans of Swing and Lady Writer, through to the mega-hits of the 80s and Brothers in Arms, taking in all the classic album and live versions from the legendary Alchemy, Live Aid and Mandela concerts. For this concert Dire Streets will be joined by Saxophonist and Flautist Nigel Hodge. The bands set include shorter songs from the early era such as ‘Lady Writer’ right through to complex album tracks such as ‘Telegraph Road’. No night would be complete without ‘Sultans of Swing’ which gets a special rendition over 12 minutes long! Dire Streets make no attempt to look like the original so no headbands or pink suits, just brilliant songs skilfully played with the enthusiasm and respect they deserve.
