DISC SPOTLIGHT: “Stop Loving You”, “Disco Queen” by Charme (1980) Dancer Records (Italy) 1980 Produced by Record S.R.L. Charme is an Italo-disco experimental group from 1980 with the electro-funk edge. “Stop Loving You” is a 12” single which stands out among arranger and producer Sebastiano Romito – this one has a touch of pop-feel keyboard riffs which paint a funky canvas for a few simple verses that border on cheese to the essence of early 80s electronic Italian disco and their search for a new formation. Following the early stages of rap during the late 70s and early 80s are the outlines on most of these singles and they represent more fun and experimentation than anything. However, those of us involved in Italo-disco can understand the meaning full on! Thanks to Pistoncito Mix for reminding me of this clever little single which was a big hit for me during funk sets with tracks by Kano.
