DIXIE DISTRICT 6 PONYTAILS SOFTBALL TOURNAMNET DAY 4 RECAP Blacksburg narrowly survives and Montgomery Co. cruises setting up a rematch between the two for the 2013 Dixie District 6 Ponytails Softball tournament. After three straight days of steady rain, the clouds parted just long enough to get Motor Mile Park somewhat dry and finally play Day 4. BLACKSBURG 13 RAFORD 9 (9 INNINGS) The first time these two teams met they played a seven innings game, this time they did better than that as they played 9 hard fought back and forth innings for a spot in the 2013 championship game. Blacksburg jumped on Radford for four in the top of the first thinks to RBI single from Alania Lafon and Robyn Mann. Radford would cut that lead in half responding for two in the bottom of the first. A Rebekah Sisson walk and Bailee Cox single would get them on base and they would work themselves in to score. Both teams went scoreless in the second. Blacksburg got back on the board in the third thanks to a bases clearing double from Chelsea Bourne. Radford’s Kelsey Martin would single then come home on a double from Tionna Eaves to get one back, but after 3 is was 7-3 Blacksburg. The fourth inning saw both teams go three up three down. Radford would get one more in the bottom of the fifth as Eaves singled and was brought home on a double by Mikayla Turner. In the top of the sixth Brooke Anderson would single and come home on a triple off the bat of Lafon. On the next play, Bourne would line out to Radford shortstop Cox who would dive and double up Lafon off third to end the inning and give Radford momentum headed into the last of the 6th. Down 8-4 Radford wasted little time getting to work. Ragan Hale lead off with a single, then Sisson, Cox would draw a walk. Kelsey Martin would get on scoring Hale and everyone would come home on a double from Turner to make this game tied at 8. Turner would get stranded at second to send this one to extras. In the top of the 7th Molly Helton would triple and score on an RBI single from Kimberly Owens. Radford’s Olivia Wyms would score to keep this one tied at 9 after 7. Both teams played the defense and keeped it scoreless in the 8th. In the top of the 9th Blacksburg finally broke lose, Katie Cox and Anderson reached followed by a two run double by Lafon. Bourne single and both Lafon and Bourne came home on a Helton triple to make the score 13-9. Radford would get two on in the bottom of the ninth but fail to score as this one ends 13-9 Blacksburg. Blacksburg advances to Saturday’s championship game. MONTGOMERY COUNTY 12 FLOYD COUNTY 0 Montgomery jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st as Emily Scaggs and McKenzie Lawrence would score thanks to a 2RBI double from Becca Harding. In the second MC would add three more as Abigail Wilson, Tori Boyd and Addy Huff would cross the plate. In the 3rd, Lawrence reach first after being hit by the pitch, Becca Harding would single; Rae Harding would single scoring those two and would score herself thanks to a single by Wilson. Montgomery would plate four more in the fourth pushing the final score to 12-0. On the mound, Becca Harding and Lacey Bishop would combine to throw a no-hitter, only allowing 1 walk for the game, striking out 5. Montgomery County is now 4-0 and has outscored their opponents by a combined score of 48-0 for the tournament. There you have it, after a three day rain delay we now have a championship game. Saturday at 10:00AM it’s Blacksburg vs. Montgomery County for the title, Montgomery does hold the championship advantage meaning Blacksburg would have to defeat Montgomery twice; that second game would be at 12:00PM. It’s FREE ADMISSION Saturday at Motor Mile Park, so there is no reason not to come out and see how this tournament ends. Bring your friends and family and we will see you there!
