DO YOUR HOME WORK Does one need to do his/her homework before carrying out a project? Probably the answer to this question might be yes and it might be no depending on the perspective that you want to look at it? Objectively we need to do our homework before engaging ourselves in any adventure in life. Do not forget that at higher level students engage themselves in a research before turning in a result. The relevance of homework at some point in time cannot be over-emphasized. Everything in life is about doing your homework first before you do whatever you want to do. The idea behind this piece is to establish the fact that homework is a worthy paradigm. And to hold to the premise that some of us are failing at whatever we do because we have refused to do our homework? This discussion seems to be simple, but it is a hard crack that has triggered failures, errors and frustrations within the public and private realm of our lives. The question is what is homework? What are the characteristics of homework? Why is homework important to us? Homework is an assessment given by the teachers to their pupils to be carried out at home over the previous lessons and in most cases for the lessons coming up the weeks ahead. At the University level students are given term papers to write and assignments take home as part of their homework. When we were in Primary School level our teachers gave us home work to do at home. The idea of giving homework to the pupils was to keep them connected to school activities and programs. Some of us could recall that our teachers had special sticks that were being used to trash any pupil that failed to do his/her homework. If homework is not important, why is it that our parents spend some hours with us on the dining table every evening when we were kids to see what we have done in School? Probably most parents are still doing that with their kids. WHY IS HOMEWORK IMPORTANT? To enable the teachers to know the strength and weakness of his pupils To enable the teachers to know where to place his/her pupils on the continuous assessment list To keep the pupils connected to school activities Homework helps the teachers to carry their students along. CHARACTERISTICS AND FEATURES OF HOMEWORK To periscope Homework is characteristically characterized with success, achievements, excellence, happiness, sound mind and progress in whatever human endeavor that we engage ourselves. CONCLUSION: Subsequent to the above historical analysis what have you understood? The analogy here is that homework is not only applicable to kids and students. It is a concept that has to be judiciously used by both the government and citizens of any society. Decision making and policy implementation process have failed in the private and public realm because we have failed to do our ‘’homework’’ Some of us have lost opportunities because we did not do our homework properly. From relationships, Business, Education, Politics to mention a few we need to do our homework and research before involving ourselves. May God help us to do our homework for 2015 so that we can excel.
