DONATION REQUEST: I am in a leadership program with about 40 - TopicsExpress

DONATION REQUEST: I am in a leadership program with about 40 people, where we each take on a project involving something that is important to us. Whats important to me is to teach people to do something that could possibly give them an avenue to become self-sufficient, or at least to make some extra money to help support themselves and their families. My project is to teach 50 people how to make a fleece blanket (1 metre X 1 metre double-sided - the no-sew type with knotted fringes). One side of the blanket is usually patterned and the other side is a plain coordinating colour. I learned how to make these blankets from one that was hanging in a fabric store several years ago. Since that time I has made at least 20-30 blankets, and taught at least 10 people how to make them as well. It is a lot of fun and people always really appreciate them, especially when it is a baby gift. They fit perfectly in a stroller, or as a lap blanket for anyone sitting and watching TV, etc. :) The people who will be given the opportunity to learn will be clients of various organizations in Victoria such as: Women in Need, Womens Transition House, Single Parents Resource Centre, etc. This is not limited to women though. Anyone who wants to learn to make a blanket can join in. If nothing else, we will create community, and she plans for these sessions to be fun! My hope is to provide the fabric and a venue to teach the lesson to 10 - 15 people at one time. I has a team of volunteers who have made blankets before and would help individuals in the room, one on one. The sessions are planned for 2 hours each on various dates in January and February, still to be determined. What is needed: 100 metres of fabric - 50 metres printed and 50 metres plain to coordinate the use of 10 - 15 cutting mats the use of 10 - 15 rotary cutters WHAT YOU CAN DO: DONATE FABRIC: If you have fleece fabric at home, at least one meter long, any colour or pattern, we would appreciate it and match it up with coordinating fabrics if necessary – If you can donate, email Judy to arrange. DONATE CASH: Cash will allow us to purchase any fabric that is needed to allow everyone to make a blanket at no cost. VOLUNTEER TO TEACH A CLASS: If any of you have experience instructing classes and are willing to volunteer to teach one class, your assistance would be welcome! Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. I will be more than happy to provide more details.
