DOUBLE STANDARD PRACTICE IS SUCH A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN MALAYSIA - TopicsExpress

DOUBLE STANDARD PRACTICE IS SUCH A COMMON OCCURRENCE IN MALAYSIA THAT CONSISTENCY IN PROSECUTION IS NO MORE VALID ANYMORE!!!! QUOTE: Under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution, Malaysians are guaranteed the right to freedom of speech, freedom of assembly and freedom of association. However, that right seems to have been severely curtailed in recent times. It is also becoming apparent that selective persecution is the practice. For example, the accusations by Umno and Perkasa towards Human Rights lawyer Edmund Bon and an online news portal for allegedly inciting a Facebook user to insult the King on Facebook led to seven police reports lodged against them. But on the issue of Perkasa threatening to burn Bibles earlier this month in protest against Christians using the world “Allah”, no action has been taken against its president Datuk Ibrahim Ali. Perkasa vice-president Datuk Zulkifli Noordin’s racist remarks about the Hindus before the general election have also gone unheeded. Remarks by these individuals stink of racial and religious intolerance. Their bigoted disrespect for minority groups has inflamed the sensitivities of the Christians and Hindus. But it appears that a man updating a Facebook post which discusses an issue affecting the rights of non-Muslims poses a threat to the country? Bon was questioned about an article he wrote online in which he questioned what authority royal decrees and the National Fatwa Council had on non-Muslims. In the article “Non-Muslims not bound by royal decrees or fatwa on Islam” Bon was quoted as saying that Islamic fatwa cannot be applied to non-Muslims.
