DOUBLE TRAGEDY The beautiful woman below was Barbro Peterson, wife of Formula 1 driver Ronnie Peterson. At a time (mid & late 70s) when Swedes were prominent in music (ABBA) and tennis (Bjorn Borg), Ronnie Peterson stood alongside them on the world stage in his arena of Grand Prix racing. He was known as Super Swede and his car control and speed remain legendary. Shortly after the start of the 1978 Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Ronnie was in an accident that badly damaged his legs, inflicting injuries from which he would succumb the next day as bone marrow entered his bloodstream. Barbro never got over the loss of her Ronnie and when I researched her a few years back I was sorry to read she was found at home under tragic circumstances just before Christmas 1987. Barbro left behind a young daughter who carries on her fathers legend to this day. At Christmas, historically the high point of the year for suicides, I think of Barbro and the millions wrestling with their own demons and struggling with their place in the world. Id like to believe she & Ronnie are together somewhere now and infinitely happy.
