DSLR Maximum recording time Almost all DSLR cameras in the Canon range have a maximum recording time, for movies, of 29mins 59secs per clip. For certain situations, this limits their use as occasionally it is beneficial to have a longer clip. If this is the case, then the EOS-1D C is a good alternative while remaining with the DSLR form factor. This is because the EOS-1D C behaves more like a video camera and can record a single clip that is up to 12hrs long – assuming the memory card has sufficient space. While 12hrs may be excessive, for a wide shot of a wedding ceremony, an hour or two would ensure a static camera could capture the proceedings with a second camera used to create close-ups, details and cutaways.
