Daddys Girl. I can think of no more powerful or more meaningful a relationship in a womans life than the long-lasting bond she forms with her father from birth. That is, of course, if she is so fortunate as to have been the daughter of a loving, attentive, protective, supportive and honorable man who committed his every waking moment to the task of building a lifetime of good memories for her. No man can truly measure up to such a daddy. He is his little girls first love. Holding daddys hand made her feel safe crossing the street. Her daddy made that wobbly first bicycle ride a monumental achievement by holding onto the bike as he ran beside her. Truth is, from the moment she took her first steps her daddy had always been nearby, creating the necessary balance and momentum she so desperately needed to be the success that she is in all things. My dear friend lost her daddy tonight. I dont know what to say to her. Words seem so inadequate. And I cant fathom what she is going through. I knew her dad, but only briefly. He was a giant of a man. He was father and grandfather, an American hero who served during World War II, and devoted husband who remained married to the love of his life for over 62 years. But mainly, what I remember the most about him is that he was my friends daddy. And first and foremost she was Daddys Girl.
