Daily Lenten Devotion Wednesday, March 19, 2014 Psalm 119:18 “Open my eyes, that I may behold wonderful things from Your law.” Perhaps some of you have seen the You Tube video of the young boy singing “Open the Eyes of My Heart Lord”. He is blind, has a diagnosis of autism and has the voice of an angel. When he sings, you know that the eyes of his heart are open. If you don’t know the words to this contemporary praise song, it goes like this: Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, Open the eyes of my heart; I want to see You, I want to see You. Sometimes it’s easy to see God, and sometimes it’s difficult. Today it is difficult to see God in the gray sky and the dirty snow, but then I remember that the snow refills our lakes and streams with life giving water. It’s usually difficult to see God in the evening news, as the news is usually full of war and terrorism around the globe. But if I keep my eyes open, I will see God in the ways that others are trying to alleviate the suffering of war. I see God often at John Knox in the many offerings of caring and kindness that members extend to one another. But sometimes we miss the needs of others because we are too busy worrying about our own needs. During this Lenten season let us pray for an open heart so that we may see and respond to God’s desires. Beckie Tweedle
