Four months in office now and what the heck have I accomplished?!! - TopicsExpress

Four months in office now and what the heck have I accomplished?!! Well O.K. lets go over a few things! Certainly hiring a new Town Administrator was a top priority and we, Board of Selectmen, were very thorough in our process to be certain we selected the right candidate. Fred Turkington Jr. is on board now and doing an outstanding job. We also chose a new Finance Director, Cynthia Doherty, who is also doing a great job! Then there is Lake Massapoag! Wow, lots of opinions on the state of the lake and what to do about it! I believe we made a good decision to form a committee to discuss the issues/problems and try to work together to resolve them. Too much Hatfields and McCoys action was getting us nowhere! I read all the studies done on Lake Massapoag and have formed my own opinion which I will share with the committee at our first meeting. In the meantime, the BOS identified two points of action that all interested parties seemed to agree on. 1. Move forward immediately to arrange a hook up with MWRA. 2. Move forward immediately to identify our best option for a new well site and attempt to get the permit from the State to make it happen (very difficult as the State is not permitting many new wells) but we must try. Thats progress! Safety issues were discussed for Massapoag Ave. and Hampton Rd. and the issues will be addressed as Massapoag Ave. is being reconstructed with new safety features added, (granite curbs, bike lane style markings, crosswalks painted and new signage to address the rotary issue). Hampton Rd. will also receive attention with some rebuilding of curbs, radar speed signage and further study of traffic speed and patterns. I have been progressing with moving our Veterans Agent to a new office located on the second floor of the Community Center, He didnt really ever have an identifiable office before. He will also have expanded hours of service for our veterans. His new office will be ready soon and will have a desk, file cabinets, chairs, table and art work, all donated by generous Sharon citizens and the Sharon Public Schools. Cost to Sharon taxpayers? ZERO! Thank you Supt. Tim Farmer, Ken Wertz and Jose Libano for the surplus items! Thank you Steve Fenerjian (Mangia fame!) for the file cabinets and desk and the Buhler family for the Vietnam Memorial Wall photo/art. Thank you Veterans Agent Paul Bergeron for your assistance and enthusiasm! Some other items of interest we have been working on: N Star switching station proposed for Canton Street New Public Safety Building Student parking at Veterans Memorial Beach Hammershop Dam/Pond failure Invasive weed control/enforcement measures at Lake Massapoag Brickstone and the Commons, yup it continues! Employee contract negotiations Noise complaints from neighbors of the Salvation Army Camp Far too many other things to list here but Im sure you can see we have been very busy. I receive many e-mails, postings and phone calls from citizens concerning their issues/problems and I do my very best to address them immediately; damaged mailboxes, safety issues with overgrown brush in the roadway, tax payment assistance, missing POW flag, barking dogs, unsightly junk in public view, the infamous water bubbler...and many, many more! They are all important to me as I know they are important to you! Moocho thanks to all the Town employees that have responded immediately to my requests to address your issues, and please dont hesitate to ask for assistance with any problem you have with our Town, thats why you elected me!
