Daily Manna Wednesday 12, March 2014 TOPIC: A Future Secured TEXT: ISAIAH 7:10-25 Key verse: “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14) . Many people excuse their distrust in God by pretending that they conduct their lives in reverence to Him. They profess that the only way to reverence God is not to bother Him with their affairs. But this foreshadows a stubborn and obstinate heart, intent on prosecuting its own self- appointed devices. It was so with Ahaz, the sinful king of Judah who was requested by Isaiah to pray to God for a sign that His promised deliverance from enemies would come true. He responded self- righteousl y that he would not tempt the Lord. The true reason for his refusal was that, he had built his hope on idols and assistance from the Assyrians. In his pretentious piety, he willfully tried the patience of God who would not allow Judah to be destroyed by their enemies. The Messiah would be born by a virgin, denoting His divine power and purity. The Messiah shall be called Immanuel, which means “God with us” or God in human nature, a comforting message that nothing ought to trouble their hearts. He was assuring them that despite their present distress and the powerful enemies confronting them, the Jews would be preserved until the advent of the Messiah. They should look beyond their immediate problems, and rather concern themselves with their future. God’s plans always appear to be a long shot to men. Those who allow the temporary difficulties of this life to drive a wedge between them and God are courting disaster, mortgaging their future prospects. Rather than give in to pressures of this time, men ought to draw the strongest consolation in their troubles from Jesus Christ. This can come through establishing a clear relationship with Him, maintaining an unshakable interest in Him and harbouring great expectations for the future from Him. Nothing else will do. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A future without Christ is a future lost.
