****** Daily News carriers targeted in series of early morning assaults----:::Police searching for suspect in Longview stabbing Longview police are searching for a suspect in a Sunday morning stabbing in the Highlands neighborhood that sent one man to the hospital. Read more Over the last two weeks, four Daily News carriers have been assaulted in separate events while delivering newspapers in the early morning hours. All of the attacks occurred in an area west of Lake Sacajawea between Industrial Way and Nichols Boulevard. Robbery does not appear to be a motive in any of the attacks. Two of the carriers needed medical attention, one for a cut to the head and another for a black eye. During the most recent attack early Friday, the assailant reportedly had a gun. “We don’t have a suspect identified yet, but there was some information about a possible vehicle that we are trying to tie in,” Longview Detective Sgt. John Reeves said. Although police are not releasing details about the type of car identified, Reeves said another incident involving a similar car was reported within a few days of one of the attacks. “Obviously, we’re looking for some kind of lead that we can follow up on,” Reeves said. “There is some indication that the assaults could possibly be linked.” Daily News carriers are being encouraged to be particularly alert to their surroundings. “Our officers working graveyard, specifically during the time these attacks are happening, will be more observant and watch what’s going on in these residential areas,” Longview Police Chief Jim Duscha said. “If (newspaper carriers) see anything suspicious at all, they just need to call 911.” Contact Daily News reporter Shari Phiel at 360-577-2510 or sphiel@tdn.****************************************************CRIME ALERT *****************************************
