Dan Hicks,born in Little Rock, AR , but moved to Santa Rosa age 5, so well call him our own native SR son b. Dec. 9 . 1941 now 73 years old. Dan is an alumni of Montgomery High School Santa Rosa and as a teenager there had a local show on KSRO, Time Out For Teens. He was a drummer in grade school and at MHS. Later went to SFState and most importantly was a pioneer in The San Francisco Sound and era of post Beat pre Hippie days of 1965/66. His first recorded band, The Charlatans were instrumental in the evolving folk to rock genre and laid the foundation for his quirky cool vision to come. The Charlatans were essential in SF Rock history in that they laid the foundation of the fashion by wearing Wild West and Edwardian clothing and playing off beat music and having the first psychedelic posters. The Charlatans didnt get the record contract that later North Bay bands got and broke up by 1968. Tough breaks but Dan put together some Hot Licks and well you know the rest. Still a favorite...
