Dana Sayre wrote: Call for performance: Title/Theme: Queeristential Crisis. Whats your day job? Do you live to work, or work to live? How do you (or do you) find work-life balance? How does being queer put you at odds with your day job, or does it? A lot of queers in Austin are working in the service industry, or working multiple odd jobs to make ends meet. The customer service ethos can really drain self-esteem, causing an existential crisis where even outside of work its hard to stand up for yourself or make tough decisions. Its easy to end up in a spiral of anxiety and depression around work, or to see it as a drain on creative pursuits or passions. Have you ever reached a breaking point regarding work? Conversely, was there a job that saved you? Date: Thursday, June 12 Location: TBA We need 3-5 people willing to be interviewed who will tell a story about a mundane/quotidian work experience, which they can either perform themselves or which can be a jumping-off point to facilitate someone elses performance piece. Hopefully different points of view: one person who is resigned, another at a breaking point, another whos found joy, etc..... We will need ensemble cast members interested in movement and performance: 10-15 depending if people want to work on multiple pieces. We want to mix and match genres in a single performance piece - dance/movement and poetry ; theatre and drag. Length: 45-60 minutes, broken up into three 15-20 minute sections. Each section would be based around a job/interview, and would combine all performance elements. Can be biographical, fictional, archetypal, or all of the above. (Example: start off with storytelling, which then moves into movement and poetry, ending with a drag performance). We would find a way to bridge and connect each section (ex: first we explore someone working in a call center. At the end of the section, they call someone else who is leaving the house for their job at a coffee shop, trying to sell them something, and then we follow that second persons story).
