Dancing during dinner? Absolutley!!! Theres nothing better than to see guests take it to the dance floor during dinner in-between courses! Why not? Dinner music is equally as important as post-dinner music (I think so, anyway)! As a DJ, I personally always try to create a mood, tone, and atmosphere during dinner (and cocktail hour, for that matter) that will engage your guests! They dont have to dance to be engaged. Although, the choice of music, the volume levels, and most importantly the timing of what and when songs are played, are all important factors that add to the overall success of a weddings atmosphere, tone, flavor, and vibe! No two weddings are the same, nor are their soundtracks!! As a DJ, its important to read your room at all times - see where your guests are, who your guests are, whos up, whos down, whos talking, whos not. Is there a social buzz in the room? If so, cue something up that will compliment it! If not, cue something up that might create one (or at least trigger one)! Watch the meal courses, the foot traffic, etc. See an opening to bait some guests with a song selection to entice them to the dance floor without going against the grain of dinner service, dinner conversations, inappropriate volume levels, and without putting a spotlight on those that take the bait...then by all means, GO FOR IT! Music will always create and/or compliment the atmosphere during each and every phase of ones wedding day! For the most part, the wedding soundtrack is created live and on the fly! Its our job as DJs to use our talent, knowledge, and experience to make the most of it! Its what we do (or should do!).
