Daniel Webster was a defender of the Union. As a child he was brilliant ,and from an early age he loved to read. I do not remember when or by whom I was taught to read,because I cannot recall a time when I could not read the BIBLE. Webster believed that to become a great orator one must study the Word of God ,and he regularly practiced his own oratory by reciting the Bible aloud. Visitors often gathered just to hear Daniel Webster read the Bible.
