Darren, The response from you has been amazing. For more than six months we’ve been standing together against the Abbott Government’s attack on Medicare. We fought and won a by-election over protecting Medicare, and we’ve held rallies in every major city and in countless regional areas. The Abbott Government arrogantly thinks that they can get away with introducing a $7 GP Tax, but you and thousands of other Australians have been making your voices heard in every way possible. And I’ve been personally touched by the stories you’ve told us. After reading about how universal healthcare makes a fundamental difference to your lives, it makes me want to fight even harder against Tony Abbott’s attempt to destroy Medicare. Our efforts have come together with over 67,000 of you signing the petition to tell Tony Abbott hands off our Medicare. Today I delivered that message in a place where Tony Abbott couldnt avoid it. It is an absolute honour to champion Medicare on your behalf, but the fight isn’t over yet – Tony Abbott and his Government are still pushing ahead with their unfair $7 GP Tax and over $50 billion in cuts to our hospitals.
