Date: 5th April, 2014 SCR Detects 26.6 Lakh Ticketless / Irregular Travelers and Collects Rs 83 Cr. Towards Penalty during the Fiscal 2013-14 In order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona-fide passengers, SCR undertook a series of regular checks and special drives against ticketless / irregular travel on its jurisdiction involving ticket checking staff and Railway Protection Force personnel. During the last financial year i.e. from April 2013 to March 2014 in the just ended fiscal, SCR detected 26.6 lakh persons committing the offence of ticketless / irregular travel, which is 16.7% more than the cases detected for these offence during the corresponding period of previous fiscal. This includes 7.6 lakh cases of Travelling Without Ticket, 9.6 lakh cases of Irregular Travel and 9.4 lakh cases of Unbooked Luggage. An amount of Rs. 83.71 Cr. was collected from these offenders towards penalty, marking an increase of 12.7% over the penalties collected during the previous financial year. The surprise checks carried out by the Flying Squads of the Divisions and Head Quarters helped enhance the effectiveness of the ticket checking activities at various stations and in trains with an aim to curb the social menace of ticketless and irregular travel. Shri P. K. Srivastava, General Manager issued instructions to the officials concerned to step up these checks in the ensuing holidays / summer season in order to ensure a comfortable and secure travel to the bona- fide passengers.
