Date: Friday, 31st October 2014 Passage: 1 Kings 13:1-34 Reference: Verse 8 No, I wouldnt go with you, even if you offered me half of your kingdom. I wont eat or drink here either. CEV Thought: Talking is not enough. How it impressed me: Talking is not enough to overcome temptation. The young prophets from Judah heard God clearly about what he was supposed to do. The instruction to the young prophet was to tell Jeroboam that the altar where he was sacrificing will be torn into two and a child name Josiah would sacrifice the priest that worshipped idol on that particular altar. He was also warned not to eat in Bethel or followed the same road by which he enter the city. The young prophet was able to stand on his words before the king but failed before the old prophet. The old prophet used the word of God to deceive him. The young prophet never cross checked to find out the will of God. He believed the lies of Satan by the old prophet. He followed the old prophet to Bethel thereby following the same road that God said, he should not follow. He ate in the old prophet’s house against God’s word that he should not eat. Therefore, God sent the same old prophet to tell him the consequence of his action. Young prophet died according to God’s word. He was killed by a lion but the lion did not eat him, It is not enough to talk about not falling into temptation. Strong will and grace of God is needed to keep up till the end. It is not enough to believe every word because God’s name was mentioned in it. We must cross check our action with the word of God and his revealed will. We must realized that God will hold us responsible for our action or inaction. The same people that lured us into temptation will be the first person to call us sinner when we fall. Hence, we must be resolute to the end and don’t allow anyone to use the word of God to manipulate us. Prayer: God, give me grace to hold on to your will in the midst of temptation.
