David Ferrer battled past Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3 3-6 6-3 in Hamburg to close in on his 22nd ATP Tour title.World number seven Ferrer fired down nine aces in a one hour and 54 minute epic against world number 16 Seppi. The win saw top seed Ferrer complete his eighth straight win over Seppi and will now face Pablo Andujar in the next round. Andujar had earlier eased past Dustin Brown 6-1 6-2 in just over an hour. Seventh seed Philipp Kohlschrieber battled past 2011 champion Gilles Simon 7-5 6-3 to set up a date with Lukas Rosol, who saved all seven break points he faced in a 7-5 7-6(6) upset over third seed Tommy Robredo.
