Day 1 of riding has been amazing. We left Port Alice at 9.30am to an amazing send off and started the steady climb of approx 30km out of the brimful town. Within minutes the heavens opened and the rain began to pour. We knew then it was going to be a very wet day and just 20 minutes in to the ride we were completely soaked to the skin. Our spirits though could not be broken and the knowledge of why we were riding pushed us forward to Port Hardy. After a few stops along the way to refuel our bodies we arrived to yet another amazing welcome. We were cheered into the hall and made our way onto the stage where we were introduced to the community. Then the head shaves began and I had the honour to help Sarah a young girl donate her hair to charity and she also raised $1900 in doing so. After a light lunch and as the rain continued to pour we made our way to Port McNeil the completion of our first leg(total distance 97km) and yet again we received am amazing welcome. The kids had drawn amazing pictures for us which put great smiles on all our faces. We were given an amazing dinner and here we stay for the night before leaving tomorrow morning for Sayward a 140km leg of our journey. The feeling of actually being on tour was that of pride, honour and fulfilment. I am truly blessed to be part of this amazing event.
