Day 14 of the #funchallenge at #twistedyoga and were looking at #bridge #pose or #setubandhasana I worked up to supporting myself with my hands by using a block to help me work into my backbend as well as slowly opening the front of my body. This is a safe and strong backbend that is excellent for beginners. The pose helps to develop flexibility, strength and an awareness of the way in which you can use your abdominal and pelvic floor muscles (mula and uddiyana bandhas). Bridge pose strengthens your legs and helps to open your chest, which in turn frees the heart centre. It also stimulates the spine and the glands in the neck, and prepares the body for shoulderstand.
