Day 15: Unfortunately, we are coming to the end of what I have - TopicsExpress

Day 15: Unfortunately, we are coming to the end of what I have been calling our Petit Tour de France. This was a big travel day, we drove from our condo on the southern French shore of the Mediterranean to the top of the Pyrennes and the tiny independent country of Andorra, and back. Considering the diversity of the ground we covered, I am going to again break the travelogue into 3 parts. Our first stop, was the Abbey of St Michel de Cuxa, initially built in the 9th Century as a foothold in the Catholic/French effort to drive the Muslims back into northern Spain. It is still an important yearly pilgrimage stop. Our next stop was the medieval town of Villefrance-de-Confluent, founded in 1092, built in a beautiful narrow valley, due to its strategic location in the continuing effort to solidify French control of the area. Though we were only able to stay for about an hour, that still provided sufficient time to observe how the French have been able to maintain and preserve their rich heritage. On to the magnificent top of the Pyrennes, still covered in snow.
