Day 154. Regina Spektor - What We Saw From The Cheap Seats Some of you may recognise the name Regina Spektor as the girl who does the theme tune to Orange Is The New Black (highly recommended by the way). What We Saw... is actually quite a departure from the rock edge that Youve Got Time has. So heres a few reasons why its arguably the best record Ive heard on the challenge so far. Its quirky, Spektors got a weird streak, from singing half a song in a French accent, to vocalising percussion and horns on a couple of tracks, its bizarre yet refreshing. Its well written. Spektor doesnt just write great tunes, but she throws in all sorts of melodic twists on offbeat piano play. And finally, the thing that absolutely steals the show it the fact that she is quite simply a lyrical genius. She paints such a vivid picture of her own slightly skewed view on the world, and its frankly a pleasure to listen to. Overall score - An easy 10/10 Stand out track - Not so easy, theres literally 5 or 6 I could choose, but simply for the amazing lyrics and the twisted perspective on museums and art galleries, it has to be All The Rowboats. Choice lyric - First there’s lights out, then there’s lock up, Masterpieces serving maximum sentences, It’s their own fault for being timeless, There’s a price to pay and a consequence
