Day: 2 Date: Thursday June 6th Status: Alive Location: Beijing Today was a walking day. It started off with a failed attempt to join a skype meeting at 7 am. Bad internet! The next logical thing to do was of course just go out and walk. I explored the areas where the locals do their everyday activities. I wanted to find a local market so when I started seeing people coming with groceries I traced back their initial location! There I found food and fruits! I also tried this crispy pancake thing… I don’t know the name. The lady who made it was very sweet. I think I’m gonna go for the durian today. So far it doesn’t smell as bad as people say…. It actually smells goodish… maybe it’s the wrong fruit. I had some weird white drink too, I thought it was going to be plain soymilk but it was hazelnutty or something. Oh, yeah… I’m interacting in chinese!!! Super broken chinese but it is working!!!! :D I already fed myself 2 days and bought a sim card! After walking kilometers and kilometers I decided it was time to go to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. The place is HUGE!!! It should be renamed the never-ending city! I walked for 5 hours!!! I actually wanted it to be over, I was is pain… I have worn out 3 mm off my sneakers! Weird thing: people wanted to take pictures with ME.... That was odd, it has never happened before. I thought this only happened to Erin Anstadt. I wish the sky would have been blue, the Forbidden city would have looked astonishing! The whole time the smog-fog covered the city. I takes away its beauty. On the other hand: I got used to the exhaust smell… Can you believe it is bad enough that later during the day it makes your eyes burn a little???? I crawled back to the hostel and by 9pm I was dead and passed out. I began writing this before I passed out, but I’m finishing it now at 6am. End of Log.
