Day 2 Honduras: Great day. Up at 5:45 am, breakfast and on the road by 7 am. Saw the sun come up over the mountains of Honduras. Beautiful but the sunrise is just the sunset in the other direction. sleep sounds better to me. Today we went to Agua Blanca which is our farthest trip. about 11/2 hours up a steep incline of a mountain to the top. We are blessed to have 4 doctors, seth berl, DW adcock, david adcock and mia armstrong and 3 dentists, bob wright, michael dent and tom (sully) sullivan on this team. this is more than usual. saw over 300 patients in medical clinic and over 100 teeth met the hammer and chisel. our pre-dental student, hannah jones pulled her first tooth by noon, something a dental student does not do until year 2. when we tell students they will be hands on we mean it. our dentists subscribe to the see one, do one, teach one method. i expect hannah to be injecting Novocain tomorrow. our pre-med and pre-PA students, casey koehler, devon kelly and Alex rich shadowed doctors and even went to the dental clinic for awhile. we have some great teachers in Dr. DW, Dr dave and Dr. mia. Robin wilson was our triage nurse. she is responsible for taking vital signs and getting a histories on each patient. that would be over 300 patients today, then robin went to work in the pharmacy. as team leader, it is great when your team members sees a need and just goes and fills it. the pharmacy workers continue to amaze. it seems like mass confusion to anyone looking at what they do they tell me there is a method to their madness. 3 or 4 of them will be calling (yelling) out medicine by name and 2 or 3 others are running around picking up the medicine and delivering back to the person who called. picture when you run over an ant mound with your lawnmower and watch the ants run in all directions. then you come back an hour later and the mound is remade. that is what it looks like to us non- pharmacy people. the runners for medication today were kim tomlinson, lavearn brooker and our missionary rhonda sweeny. the other pharmacy workers were judy adcock, carrie david and kim at times along with robin at times. DW adcocks sister, wesena jordan is our eye glasses person. she is amazing. first her spanish is great. second, she has anything anyone needs. we can not understand how she gets everything into 1 suitcase. I hope i have not left anyone out. the team has been great. the students provide incredible energy and the doctors and dentists work hard from start to finish. The special moment for me today was watching carrie blow bubbles for the kids and watch them chase the bubbles like kids are suppose to do. they laughed continuously and carrie smiled. sometimes the simple things in life mean the most. We will do amazing things this week and i am blessed to be part of this. seth
