Day 2 of #SUMMERSTRONG with @day1yoga and @yogainspiration Second day, second jump in the ashtanga series and surya namaskara A. This is the forward jump from downward dog into sapta, or the 7th position. In some ways jumping forward feels more natural and therefore easier, but I actually think this is a harder jump in term of achieving lightness. Because when you jump backwards you feel weight in your hands first and jump second. This movement, you jump first and try to catch your weight in your hands 2nd. For this challenge: Repeat this jump several times, anywhere from 6-15x focusing on these keys aspects: -Start in a good and stable downward dog position -Engage your chest and spread your shoulder blades. As you lean back and bend your knees to launch into your jump, keep your shoulder position. In other words do not go into a hyper mobile shoulder stretch as you press back. Continue to feel your chest engage, and if possible your lats. Bend your knees and as your feet leave the ground keep your knees bent and your legs relaxed. Remember the work is in the arms. Land as lightly as you can. Bent legs, and fall into a squat, which cushions the fall and teaches you to stay compact and land lighter NOTE: Dont go crazy! Stay low, land low. We are working on control, not height! Learn the strength and control low to the ground before you send your hips flying forward!
