Day 3: The pacific hwy looks eerily like a moonscape in parts but is once again on fire at the Lake Munmorah sign on the western side (as of 22:00hrs). I was incredibly impressed and quite frankly I felt a little teary by the home made banners I saw on the way to work (yes I made part of a shift!) on the side of the road thanking the fire brigade for saving their homes. Choppers water bombing overhead all morning and the fire brigade (both rfs and fire brigade) continually filling at the hydrant at the front of the house make interesting and curious viewing and we made the decision to evacuate ourselves earlier today as the high smoke plume was a little too close for comfort for us. However, we swiftly returned as the wind changed and the threat died down once again. It was horrible to see people on their roofs watering their houses - I went into theatre nurse mode and I told Geoff we would probably see a few cracked skulls, limbs, back and whatever before the fire even has a chance to shower its embers again. Thanks to the wonderful firemen/women and volunteers. Im tired atm...cant even begin to imagine their tiredness and those that have lost their homes. Take care to all xx
