Day 4 Update: Yesterday I had the opportunity to be in a conference regarding women’s leadership and political participation. The conference started out amazing as I got to sit next to First Lady of Nigeria, Ekiti State Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi . She was named by New African Magazine as one of the 20 most influential African women on the continent. In March 2011, she was listed among the world leading 100 personalities working for the interests of women and girls by Women Deliver. She is also the recipient of the 2011 David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award, one of the most prestigious awards in the field of philanthropy, given by the Synergos Institute, New York. All I can say is simply amazing. We got to learn of the struggles of the Libirian female President and story that touched all of us in the room. They encouraged us to look at more legislation in our countries that pertain to women because when women are out of sight they are out of mind. They also told us to challenge and push forward to our governments that they must commit to resources for women. On the panel we had a very influencing presentation by the Malawi Minister for Gender, Children and Community Development. This day was simply perfect in every way possible.
