Day 4 of Thirty Days of Christmas Music For years, the first - TopicsExpress

Day 4 of Thirty Days of Christmas Music For years, the first holiday song on our stereo after the Christmas season’s post-turkey “launch” has been this wonderful, 9-minute-long jazz version of “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” by the Dexter Gordon Quartet, recorded in 1980. Tenor saxaphonist Gordon was, at 6-feet-6, a literal jazz giant who spent much of his career in Europe, basking in the Continent’s adulation. Later in life, he starred in the Clint Eastwood-directed film “After Midnight,” for which he was nominated for a lead acting Oscar. Gordon had a savvy, sophisticated musical touch that could alternately excite and soothe. For me, this tune is like a long, delicious bath in the holiday spirit.
