Day 5: Some of my favorite recent oil paintings. The Secret Garden paintings are a metaphor for my struggle to look into my own inner world - represented by a dimly lit, nebulous garden. The girls in these images are tense, searching, blind, and often obscured by abstracted or unfinished shapes. The juxtaposition of finished with unfinished gives some of the images strong graphic compositions, and is an additional symbol for unresolved understanding. Though these are not paintings of me, I consider this series very personal. All 4 of these paintings, and about 6 more will be at Lovetts Gallery for a show opening Feb 7th in Tulsa, OK! Ill be there, too - painting during the opening. For my final nomination, I choose Trey Bryan! We have shared several studios, and he always inspired me to take more risks in my work. Trey, Ive seen some photos of your recent large paintings, but I hope you will post more of them!
