Day Fifteen: Thanksgiving Here we are in a beautiful setting. 30+ and all generations from newborn to 60s. Sadly, this morning as we prepared to gather in one of the dwellings about 2 miles away, news came that our worship leader, wife and two small children were hit by another car and were being cut out. THANKFULLY, the children(incl. the newborn) were unhurt, but dad has a potential fractured wrist and mum is in deep shock. THANKFULLY, we have fire, police and ambulance services second to none. THANKFULLY, we have a God who is so BIG that even in this we can THANK HIM. As a church family we are now trying to find our way forward in thanks, prayer and praise. HE has not changed and HE is their, and our God, just as much now as he was first thing this morning. We are having a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner tonight (we are Canadian, American and British here). This was already planned and it will continue to happen. We are shocked and sad but we are also THANKFUL. This is where the rubber of what we know hits the road. Celts lived in a dangerous world too. In this poem an ancient Celt expresses his thanksgiving and I share it with you today. Please pray for us. Peace. Thanks to Thee, O God, that I have rise today, To the rising of this life itself; May it be to Thine own glory, O God of every gift, And to the glory of my soul likewise. O great god, aid Thou my soul With the aiding of Thine own mercy; Even as I clothe my body with wool, Cover Thou my soul with the shadow of Thy wing. Help me to avoid every sin, And the source of every sin to forsake; And as the mist scatters on the crest of the hills, May each ill haze clear from my soul, O God. (as I finish typing this news has reached us that the wife, Emma, is to be Air Ambulanced to the nearest hospital so she may have further injuries - please pray for her, she gave birth only four weeks ago.)
