Days 7, 8, and 9 of Last Trip around Australia: Tassie. Bus rides, hiking, rain, mud, jungle, bags on the feet and no internet. Sorry for the limited updates, but I havent had service until tonight and I wont have it again for two more days! Im with a tour group, traveling around Tasmania! There is eleven of us, plus Matt the tour guide. We have three Germans (one guy and two ladies), four Australians (an older lady and a dad and his two kids), one awesome Brit Stacey Hunter, a cool Canadian Kait Janelle, and one girl from China! Its a fun group and we all get along really well. The first day, we headed off early and did a bit of driving before seeing the Franklin River, Lake St Claire, and Russells Falls (a really cool waterfall) and then we slept in the middle of nowhere. We did see a cool paddymelon by the waterfall and I got a video of it with the GoPro. The place was freezing and we had to walk in the rain, outside, to use the bathroom. Very annoying. We did have a really nice BBQ and we played cards at night which is when the German boy, John, got the nickname Cheater because he kept peeking at Kaits cards and telling all of us what she had. I won two games in a row, even though Matt tried to make sure I lost. He Doesnt know the name of the game we were playing, but it seemed like an American game with Aussie rules added to it. Im pretty sure Ive played it with Micah Loomer, Naomi Lynn and Erin O. Cheater and Kait also each won a game. The second day was rough because not only was it pouring rain, but we were waking through a jungle that was really muddy for three hours and it was freezing. I actually wore bags over my shoes because they are for running and made of mesh! I looked really silly, but I dont care! It helped to keep some of the mud away but the shoes still got torn up. The bags didnt really last that long but I kept them on anyway. Some of the others didnt have raincoats so they wore garbage bags. We made quite a sight! The waterfall was pretty amazing at the end! Because of all the reason, it was rushing down like the Niagara Falls! There was a skinny bridge that only holds two people and shakes as you walk on it. We walked on it all the way to the middle (in the rain and I still had those bags on!) And took photos there! That was cool! Matt and I went up close to the waterfall and he took the GoPro and stuck it in the middle of the falls! Im sure the footage will be amazing! We went back soaking and couldnt wait to get out of our clothes! On our way back, we picked up the people who had chosen to pay for a boat ride instead of doing the walk and saw a lumber Mill with the smoothest and best smelling wood Ive ever seen. After getting cleaned up, we went and watched a play called The Ship that Never Was, which is the longest running play in all of Australia! Its a two person play with audience participation and has been running for over 20 years! The two main people will randomly pick audience members to participate in it. Not someone raising their hands, but someone they think will be funny because they dont want to do it. Yours truly was picked to be the parrot. The play is based on a real event in 1834 when the last ship built at the convict settlement in Macquarie Harbour was about to sail for the new prison at Port Arthur but was hijacked by ten convict shipwrights. So begins the story of an amazing escape, an extraordinary voyage and an intriguing twist in which the prisoners get away that claiming they just stole a bunch of wood because it wasnt yet a ship (hadnt been registered, didnt have a crew and wasnt finished). During the play, I was to randomly squak and then later I had to come on stage and a parrot costume was put on me. I had to sit there while the ship sailed and water was squirted on me. Then I had to fly away and come back. Cheater was JB and was one of the convicts. The little girl from the family was the car and she was to swat at people, but she was a little violent! After the play was over, we tried to see the full moon that was supposed to be red but it was too cloudy. Today, we hiked Cradle Mountain. It was really cold and cloudy (plus wet) and you couldnt see the mountain at all. The lake was very pretty though. But later, Staci and I were to see it when the sun came out and the cloud lifted a little. We went to the visitors center for lunch and to buy gifts. I was buying some postcards and Staci was looking in the mirror. We didnt realize we were running late until it was too late. Matt has this rule that if you are late back to the bus, you have to wear this stupid pink hat with late written on it for the while bus ride to the next stop and the whole time at the next stop. Its so embarrassing! Since I left Staci step on before me (I had no idea what was going on), I was the last person the bus and had to wear it! So awful! Thankfully, several people on the bus on are nice and argued with hi for me about what the next stop was. We saw some wild wallabies, wombats and an echinuda. We tried to stop to take photos and we also stored at the first tree that is registered as a post office. Matt tried to say that wasnt the official next stop but with everyone arguing, I got to take the stupid hat off. After that, we saw a town full of murals and bought yummy fridge (although not as good as american fudge). We stored at a cheese place that had lots of cow statues. I took selfies with the cows. Arriving in Launceston for the night, we finally had internet! We headed to a bar for a cheap steak dinner and to meet matts patents. They were very cool and pretty funny! I showed everyone people of Walmart because we keep taking about bogans and thats the american version. Im attaching the video we made to Snapchat my dad because its funny! If you want a Snapchat back, send me one! (Johnsonka21)
