Deadly crash in Franconia Notch On 6/13/13 at approximately 11:24 AM, a motor vehicle crash occurred on the Franconia Notch State Parkway section of Interstate 93 northbound in the Town of Franconia. The crash occurred at the intersection of the entrance to the former viewing area for the Old Man of the Mountain. The preliminary on-scene investigation determined that a single motorcycle with one rider was traveling north and failed to negotiate the entrance to the viewing area. The motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet, was ejected, and suffered serious injuries. Passersby came upon the scene and attempted to render aid to the driver until EMS personnel arrived. The out of state driver was transported to Littleton Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries. Units assisting the State Police at the scene included personnel from the Franconia Fire and Police Departments, Littleton Regional Hospital Paramedics, and the NH Bureau of Forests and Lands The identity of the driver is not being released at this time, as attempts to notifiy next of kin is still on-going at the time of this press release.
