Dear All, I reproduce hereunder the letter sent (through fax) to the Home Secretary today: Shri Anil Goswami, The Home Secretary to Government of India, New Delhi SOS complaint: Has Marshal Law been declared in Jammu! Hon’ble Sir, This is already in your knowledge that the Hindu Minorities of Kishtwar district have been brutally attacked by the members of the majority community on the day of EID. The detail of this barbaric action, right under the nose of the Minister of State for Home of the J&K Government, is appalling. Consequent upon the unfortunate development, a wide spread protest took place in the Jammu province. The State administration has miserably failed in its duties to protect the minorities of the state and instead have taken draconian measures to muzzle our voice and means of contact. The latest in this series is its decision to stop and ban the GPRS services in the state. They have now, taken away the benefit of Internet as well, and have instructed the news channels to stop showing news about the Jammu situation. The common people have been put virtually under house arrest by the government. I have been forced to become a ‘prisoner in my own house’. Large contingent of paramilitary forces and Army are on the streets for no fault of ours. I want to know the reasons for these draconian measures…..have we been divested of our right to protest even. We are not able to move, we cannot talk to media, we cannot get connected to the world, I ask what our crime is! It seems as if ‘Marshal Law’ has been declared in Jammu on a day when we were supposed to make preparations for the celebration of our Independence Day. I make an earnest request to you to take an urgent view of the state government’s failures and I further seek Central Government’s direct intervention in the present crisis. I am posting copies of this letter to the Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs and NHRC also. With warm regards, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President, Panun Kashmir (PK) PH: 0-9419141214 ashwanikc2012@gmail
