Dear A’s Fans, I have a little service to ask you all, My name is Edouard Haibach, I’m a 34 years old French guy who did a catch during the 13th august 2013 match between the Oakland A’s and the Houston Astros, at about twenty minute of the end of the game. I would like you to hear my story because one thing happened and made this experience imperfect. Let me take the time to explain you the point! These holidays were my first stay in the US, the trip of my life! Since I was twelve, I wanted so bad to get there but never had the chance to. I’m living for ten years in Mayotte which is a little island between Tanzania and Madagascar, working in informatic maintenance and webmastering. [I spend three weeks in your country, landed in Vegas and went through Reno, Grass Valley, Sacramento, San Francisco, Yosemite, Bodie (ghost town), LA, Tijuana, Yuma, Phoenix, Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon and Monument Valley, then back to Las Vegas… Enjoying every second in my brand new rented 2014 Camaro. Such an amazing awakened dream!] The game I’m talking you about was my first ever baseball match. I’m playing basketball, but NBA was off season during that period so I went to see a baseball game and saw a second one the week after (Angels vs. Astros). I came at time for the beginning of the match and sat exactly at section 119 Row 10 seat 11. There was a net between me and the home base, and I thought I will never catch anything. When during the first period one ball passed over the net and bounced on the first level of the stadium and landed not far of my place I knew it would be possible. That’s why when “my moment” arrived, and that for the second time one ball made the same, I returned myself instinctively standing and saw it coming straight to me! Some arms rose but I touched it first with the palm of my hand, it felt in the seat next to me, and I got it! Amazing moment, you feel like you’re the one and only person who ever caught a ball, like the elected, like the presence of god, or my chance materialized. Amazing moment… Right after, I took my phone to record the people next to me testifying to my friends that I really caught the ball. Everything went right, people were very kind, I filmed what was supposed to be the proof of the catch. When the game finished twenty minutes after, I went to my car on the parking and the first thing I did was to look at the video, but … only a few seconds were recorded and it ends before anybody could say anything, a part of me asking the people “… can you, can you…” so excited (see the video joined with my post). What a drama! There wasn’t enough memory for the film to be saved, the original take was about 40 seconds... I was so upset that I even thought not to tell anybody I caught the ball, no one would believe me... Coming back to my family and friends in France and then in Mayotte, without any track and proof of the catch, only the official MLB ball, a majority believed me, but some did not… And I would really love to give them a chance not to see me as a liar. I even subscribed to the MLB official online MEDIA CENTER, but did not see me catching the ball. At what I suppose to be the right moment the camera stays on the field. My message to you all, is like a bottle in the sea, perhaps one of you taped that moment with their phone, perhaps one of you has an archive of the moment, there is certainly a camera who was running and this is my last chance to someday see me catching that ball, and prove to my friends that it really happened.
