Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Assalaamu Alaikum. As we - TopicsExpress

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Islam, Assalaamu Alaikum. As we observe the compulsory fasting of the month of Ramadan enjoined on us by our Maker, Allah (SWT), it is heart-warming to note that “When the month of Ramadan comes, the gates of Paradise are opened and the gates of (Hell) Fire are closed, and the devils are chained.” Could there have been any refreshing news than this? I don’t think so. As we all know, to gain the maximum benefits of this month requires that we welcome it, participate in it, bid it farewell and live the rest of our lives with a clean sheet. You, me and all of us have done a yeoman job by welcoming this month with a clean sheet. How? We have ensured that in our own small ways all deeds considered Islamically unacceptable, are terminated or suspended. Masha’Allah. As we pat ourselves on the back for having done these, the big question is, have we TERMINATED these actions for good, or we have SUSPENDED them because of the month of Ramadan, such that we cannot wait to go back and make up for what we have been missing? I am talking about the neglect of our obligatory Islamic duties, the Haraam relationships, the vulgar language and foul speeches, the robbery/stealing/pilfering, the bullying, clubbing, the spreading of falsehood and shameful acts on social media, the scamming, quarrelling and what have you. I hope they are not with you as we speak? As we consider it refreshing to note that the devils are chained, let us remember that the aforementioned are the devils in us (maybe not in us now but were in us prior to the coming of Ramadan). As we look forward to being forgiven by Allaah, let us remember that forgiveness revolves around sincere repentance. Let us bear in mind that having the intention of returning to these acts after Ramadan, is to say we are missing these evil acts and cannot wait for Ramadan to depart so that we can make up for what we are missing (courtesy Ramadan). In any case, let us stop, take a deep breath and reflect on the Prophetic saying that “all actions are judged by the intention behind them”. If we have suspended these actions because of Ramadan, too bad, for we will return to them (Subhan’Allah); but if we have sincerely repented, never to return to them, Alhamdulillah. Here is where a lifetime change begins. As we observe this blessed month, may you, me and all Muslims receive the numerous blessings enshrined in this month and may the Almighty Allaah accept our fasts, supplications, good deeds and our repentances. May we come out of this blessed month as white as snow and may Allaah (SWT) grant us goodness in this Dunya and Jannatul Firdaus in the Akhirah.
