Dear Citizens, The City of Idalou has received 3 mosquito - TopicsExpress

Dear Citizens, The City of Idalou has received 3 mosquito spraying sessions since Sunday evening. We sprayed Sunday evening and Monday late afternoon and the City of Lubbock sprayed Monday night. The City of Idalou purchased a mosquito control sprayer last summer/early fall from Clarke. Our representative from Clarke has helped identify the type of mosquitoes we are combating. “With the recent rainfall, you are battling floodwater mosquitoes. They emerge quickly and in great numbers after a heavy rain. Remember that the eggs of these mosquitoes can lay dormant for several years in soil until a rain event like you just had comes along. They are aggressive and their bite hurts!” Because of the aggressive nature of this breed, the City has ordered a stronger chemical to use. We will continue to spray daily until the situation is under control. Also we have had a few inquires on why we are not using an aerial spray technique. The company that we used is no longer in service in this area for mosquito spraying. The City has contacted multiple companies and we have not been able to secure an aerial spay company. Please help us control mosquitoes by doing the following (tips from KCBD): * empty any pots, buckets or old tires that might hold onto water. * change your pets water bowls at least once a day. * change out the water in wading pools and bird baths several times a week. * cover up trash containers that might collect water. * repair any leaking plumbing like faucets outside. * keep drains and ditches clear of weeds and trash so water wont collect there, either. Thank you and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us. 806-892-2531
