Dear Commissioners, This article is important for conservative leaders: pando/2014/02/26/fortune-500-companies-receive-63-billion-in-subsidies/ Please STOP giving corporate welfare out of taxpayer pockets! I know you have a “fund” for “business development” created by people before you. Doing the right thing would be to give the remaining money back to the taxpayers. Our taxes are much higher than other counties of similar size and type. You are putting us at a competitive disadvantage by keeping our taxes high while giving away money to billionaires. Florida’s Constitution Article 7 section 10 “Text of Section 10: Pledging Credit Neither the state nor any county, school district, municipality, special district, or agency of any of them, shall become a joint owner with, or stockholder of, or give, lend or use its taxing power or credit to aid any corporation, association, partnership or person;” It precludes you from taking our tax dollars to bribe or coerce companies to locate or expand here. I know you have the cloak of legality as courts have broadly interpreted the term “public good” to our demise. This is quite similar to the broad interpretation of the Commerce Clause which has allowed the Federal overreach and control of virtually all business. Stop picking winners and losers and stealing from Peter to pay Paul. Bring the pendulum back to freedom and justice our founding fathers intended. Sincerely, Chris Quackenbush
