Dear Dr. Goss. “ Recently I noticed that my dog started - TopicsExpress

Dear Dr. Goss. “ Recently I noticed that my dog started shaking his head. But now I am noticing stinky ears. Why do my dog’s ears stink?” Just wondering, Thanks! Dear “Just Wondering” “Stinky ears” most likely are indicative of an ear infection. Many times ear odor will be associated with head shaking, abnormal head/ear posture and discharge from the ear(s). Ear infections are painful and should be immediately treated. The medication chosen by the doctor will depend on the type of infection. The three most common causes of ear infections are bacteria, yeast or parasites (ear mites). Once the type of infection has been determined, and appropriate medication will be prescribed for a minimum of two weeks and sometimes longer. The best way to prevent ear odor/infections is to keep the ear clean using a drying/ anti-yeast ear cleaner on a regular basis. We recommend Malacitic Otic ear cleaner at least once a week and always after baths and swimming.
