Dear EMC colleagues and friend On April 6, 2014, at 08.38 the gun will go off for our 12 teams competing in the team run of the Zürich Marathon. 48 employees will be running a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 17.7 km for a combined total of 42,195 km! What an effort! Whilst the goals for this race vary from participant to participant they all share a common one: to raise awareness and money to solve the global water crisis. Whilst they will be handed cold, clean drinking water every 3,5 km of the run 800’000’000 people around the world do not have access to this life depending resource. As a matter of fact, they often have to walk twice that distance to get muddy, bacteria infected water that makes them sick and kills 30’000 people every week - 90% children under the age of 5! Did you know that in the city of Zurich alone there are more than 1’200 public water fountains? To us water is something that is available at all times. No wonder we are not really aware of how fortunate and blessed we are. It takes very little to help the less fortunate one getting access to clean, healthy drinking water. Just US$ 65 buys a biosand filter for a family in Cambodia and gives them clean water for as long as 15 years. Or four women in Africa - often still girls - will get clean water from a newly dug well nearby and save hundreds of hours every month for getting dirty water from far away. Time lost for school, tending the family or even start a small business. So today we ask you to help us to change peoples’ lives and support our water project at my.charitywater.org/emc-run-for-h2o-1. All 48 EMC participants have agreed to make a donation of US$ 65 towards a charity:water project that can save the lives of innocent children and help a village. Will you too?
