Dear Fellow Rotarians, It was a great turnout at last - TopicsExpress

Dear Fellow Rotarians, It was a great turnout at last Thursday’s meeting. We had a record number of 25 members and 5 guests attending our meeting. I guess many of them were there to attend Helen’s induction! The new venue, Sakura Kristal, was also an added attraction. The food was good and the meeting room was classy. It was great to have a new member inducted. As much as increasing numbers in membership is important, so is retaining what we already have. Statistics has shown that we have lost just as many members as we have recruited, in the last 10 years, Rotary world-wide. There are a lot of ways and means of recruiting new members but seldom do we hear about how to retain them. How do we retain members? What should we do to keep them committed? Surely these are thoughts to ponder about. I remember reading recently in the District 3300 Google Groupabout a guest speaker who attended a club meeting and spoke about Passion, particularly about people who had Passion for their job. The article indicated that a worldwide survey found that about 35% of employees have a passion for their job. When there is passion, one will automatically be involved. I am sure being a Rotarian is no different. One most effective way of instilling passion in members is to engage them to buy into the Values of Rotary, one being Service above Self. Engage Rotary & Change Lives! The theme is so appropriate in this context. How we engage each and everyone in the club is the challenge! Each one of us has our interests, aspirations and idiosyncrasies. Be it service or be it fun, if we can get members excited and involved, we will be able to retain our members. So dear members, ask yourselves what is it about Rotary that pushes the right buttons for you? What are your aspirations as a Rotarian? What can we do to engage you more? Come next week, we will discuss further on Retention. Do please share with me what you think we can do to further keep the passion of Service burning within us that will enable us to continue being a good Rotarian. Yours In Rotary Service President Sunthar Raj.
