Dear Friends Despite the electronic & print media resonating that the drought has ended based on the few showers experienced two weeks ago, the drought in Medirigiriya administrative division in the Polonnaruwa district still persists depriving drinking water to hundreds and thousands of residents in the area. This area experienced rain on the 16th and 17th of August bringing hope to the end of the drought. However now the residence are faced with even more adversity due to Absence of notable rainfall to effect the water levels of the reservoirs and aquifers. Irresponsible publicity by media has resulted in withdrawal of most aid to the affected areas. Depletion of the little water they had in their wells due to a phenomenon seen in times of slight rain fall on drought stricken soil. However Sethma Seth Lanka continues their drought relief efforts to this day delivering 13,000 to 20,000 liters of drinking water daily to the affected areas counting to its 25th day of relief operations (As of 2nd September 2014) from the commencement of the program with a pledge to provide water till the drought ends. A team from BNS joined us on our visit to Madirigiriya on the 28th of August 2014 to distribute 30,000 L of water which they have collected through their fans & friends. With the contributions from graceful donors in support of the drought relief program we have deployed the 2nd Bowser to distribute water to drought stricken border villages named Aluthwewa, Gamini Pura & Aruna Pura with effect from 3rd September 2014. Our daily distribution volume now is between 21,000 L to 30,000 L through the two bowsers deployed. Thanks
