Dear Karma Family: Today is a special day for Karma in Cullman. We turn a year old today. One year ago I was in a very dark place in my life and so I started cleaning out my house to sell on the yard sale sites but I realized that there were people who really needed these items and they couldnt afford to buy them so I gave it to those I came in contact with. When all my stuff was gone I thought well if I had that much stuff to give away others probably did too. I met up with Rhonda Moreno who was doing the same thing and I thought lets make our own group. That is where Karma in Cullman began but never in a million years did I think how far Karma would go. It started with just a handful of people. By Thanksgiving the plan to help area families for Christmas had taken off and the word spread. It was a little overwhelming but with the help of Rhonda, Jennie Cornelius, Cheryl, Janice, Amy, and my family we managed to pull together and help 235 kids and 90 different families in just three weeks. After the first of the year we knew that needs didnt start or finish with holidays it was a year round problem so we kept going. We started a food pantry, assisted with clothing and household things. We then started listing jobs and rentals and other places to get help. Slowly our member counts started to rise and then we started the classes and support groups. Our goal is to help as many people as we can and in anyway we can. We did Easter baskets, Karma Kids Days every week in the summer, and at back to school we help 135 kids with supplies, clothes and backpacks.....that is just a few things we have done and that is just the start I pray. When I call you my Karma family I dont say it just to say it...I truly mean it. As a family we can change not only Cullman but the world. We dont have to be rich to make a difference in the world....just the compassion for others is what will....The biggest and the proudest thing I can say about Karma is we are made up of all walks of life....we have men, women, children in every race, religion, beliefs, financial status. We dont all go to the same church or share the same views on life but the one thing that brings us together is the desire to make the world a better place not just for us but for our children. I want to say a huge thank you to my past admins who had to move on and those who are with me now Sheila Dill Jennie Cornelius, Jamie Abbott, Rona Goodwin Evie Frady Thompson Rise Goodwin Simmons without them I would not be able to do half of what I do. I also want to thank my family who puts up with me and my obsession with Karma. They have loaded and unloaded our van more times than they care to think, live with donations all over the house, yard , carport. They put up with me when I am always on the phone or Facebook....and yes Karma is like a sibling to them. I often get told that I am God send.....but the truth is...it isnt just ME, it is all of YOU....I just get to watch miracles happen everyday....and that makes me the luckiest person in the world. So I want to wish Karma in Cullman and the Karma Family a very Happy 1st Birthday.....I will stop now...as always much love to all....
