Dear Members of the United States Congress, As citizens of the - TopicsExpress

Dear Members of the United States Congress, As citizens of the United States, we call upon members all members of the Congress to remember your Constitutional duty, affirmed under solemn oath, to support the United States Constitution. No decision made by the President or Congress is more grave or more important than the decision to commit the nation’s blood and treasure to a war effort. The security of the nation, the stability of the nation’s economy, and the lives of the men and the women who serve in the United States Military are too important to leave in the hands of one man who has repeatedly shown his lack of respect to the Constitution and the rule of law. Acting outside of his constitutionally sanctioned role, the President of the United States has now launched our nation into a new war without a formal congressional declaration. To those of you who have expressly endorsed his lawless actions or stood and nodded silent approval, we express both our dismay and disapproval for your abrogation of your Constitutional duty. To those of you who have stood in opposition to his aggressive acts of war, we express our deepest gratitude – and ask you to do more. It is unconscionable that such a monumental decision would be taken without formal debate and serious consideration by the United States Congress, acting under its Article I, Section 8 powers of the Constitution – the highest law of our nation. If you do not consider this matter worthy of formal debate, you are not worthy of the office you hold. We call upon Congress to return to the US Capitol immediately. This decision whether to plunge our nation into war cannot wait until your next scheduled return to session. History will weigh your actions – or the lack thereof – in the balance. We implore you to act in the authority of your office in this most critical juncture of our nation’s history, and the history of the world.
