Dear Michigan, I have been a proud Michigander my entire life - TopicsExpress

Dear Michigan, I have been a proud Michigander my entire life despite the fact that I technically entered this world as an Ohioan. I was born in Toledo, but that is merely a technicality. Since then I have proudly consumed Faygo, eaten Bettermade like it was my job, whipped my hand out as a map across the lower 48 states as I traveled, and I proudly went to a state university for undergrad, and graduate school. I have been proud of where I come from. I have fought the neigh sayers who claim you are flat, boring, and scary because of Detroit. I have touted our music, culture and geographic beauty. That has changed recently. I am now ashamed that the place I so proudly call my home is a beacon for ignorance, bigotry, and inequality. We are sitting on a list with states whos histories make them the last to accept what is good and right in this world, they are places I dont want to be associated with, but yet here we are. Its time we change the course of things. Its time we as Michiganders say that we want to live on the right side of history and we will be a state of equality for all citizens. We need marriage equality, and we need it now. I want to be proud of my home again.
