Dear #Microsoft, No. Just say no to Metro. Here is the thing, - TopicsExpress

Dear #Microsoft, No. Just say no to Metro. Here is the thing, dudes over at Microsoft, you are not listening to the businesses. Not even in the least. You are making yourself the dumbed down version of the power that could be Windows and making it so only those that check emails and post photos of their kittys use your program. Sure, there are many new people doing that every day but you have completely forgotten about the businesses out there that have been moving to Mac for their business systems. Begrudgingly as Mac is overpriced and useless when it comes to upgrading a system (cant be done in house with regular IT techs without crap tons of special licenses, etc). However, it functions as a business computer should, quick, easy, and to the point without any forced cloud based, mobile service app bull. Here is an example of my work flow in Windows 7. 1. Open email in browser to keep track of incoming mail while I work. 2. Open 3DS Max and create 3D model. Look at task bar to see if any new mail came in. 3. Open Mudbox or other program for enhancing the model, keeping Max open while I work in case I need to make changes. Look down at task bar to see if new mail came in and reply as needed. 4. Open MindTex to create normal/AO maps for said model, still keeping the other programs open for any adjustments needed. Look down at task bar to see if new mail came in and reply as needed. 5. Open graphics program to hand paint additional details into the model, still keeping the previous programs open. Look down at task bar to see if new mail came in and reply as needed. 6. Apply maps and textures back in Max to test final model look. Export model for game engine. Look down at task bar to see if new mail came in and reply as needed. 7. Open Game engine and import model to get final look, making tweaks and changes in other programs and reimporting as needed. Look down at task bar to see if new mail came in and reply as needed. 8. Rinse and repeat. When I work, I can easily look down at my task bar and select the program I want open, even re-scale them to be side by side or use multiple monitors to view my work flow in progress. In the view I have seen of how the new Windows operating system works I will spend more time having to minimize and maximize programs, losing progress on my workflow. This is why I refused to use Windows 8 as well. If it is focused on mobile and cloud based services, I want that optional. I dont use either in this work flow, nor does anyone else in my company or any of the other companies I work with. I want the option to completely remove Metro. I dont like it. I wont use it as it takes up way too much space on my desktop. Instead of just having the small icons for the programs I use most on my desktop and the folders I use most on my start menu your current view is bloated like Windows 8 with these giant coloured buttons. All I need or want is my easy to view, clean tiny icons or text links. It makes having more options available to me at a touch of my mouse than those giant buttons that require me to scroll through them to find what I am looking for. Besides, the big shiny buttons look more like a carnival tent than a legitimate business program I dont want myself or my co-workers using the social media during work hours unless it is their job to do so. They can socialize on their own time. Integrating mobile apps and cloud based integration is asking me to open the back door of my companies operation to networks out of my control, which leads me to my next point. I want the ability to network with the other computers in our company, not be forced to integrate the system through a cloud service that is open to more potential hackers than my in house network which is secure and not connected in any way to the internet. I dont need all the bells, whistles and flash. I just need it to function with the programs we utilize on a daily basis. Keep the flash for your phones and tablets. Let the businesses have use of a clean, functioning desktop system like Windows 7. Windows 7 is your sweet spot. Fix the issues it has, perhaps add in a nice desktop organizer (like Fences) that does not hog your entire desktop with 5 brightly and blindingly coloured pictures that you have to scroll through to get to the other 300 programs we use in game development. Remove the lag from the constant searching that your OS does every time I open a folder. Make the system less dependent on Office programs so that we can close those down when not in use. Windows 8 was absolutely useless for this type of workflow. I dont see it getting any better with the Windows 10 version from this preview.
